Part-time Executive Director
Stoutsburg Sourland African American Museum (SSAAM)
Position Description: Part-time Executive Director
Summary of Scope of Position
The Executive Director has operational responsibility for SSAAM’s programs and accomplishment of its mission and strategic plan; provides high quality of administration; recommends strategies, budgets, work programs, timelines and resources needed to achieve strategic plan goals; recommends and implements fund development strategies;
supervises staff.
Accountability
Appointed by and serves at the pleasure of the Board of Trustees. Reports regularly to the Executive Committee.
Areas of Responsibility
Leadership:
-
Engage, energize and work closely with Board of Trustees, Staff, members, committees, volunteers, partnering organizations, and funders.
-
Work with the Board and Staff on organizational growth and development, fund development, and strategic planning.

Lead the organization’s capital campaign and capital projects.
-
Set up and implement the protocols, processes, controls and communication necessary to facilitate the aforementioned endeavors.
Management and Administration:
-
Oversee maintenance of central files, Board and Committee Minutes and Resolution Books, databases, mailing lists, and related IT applications.

Assist Treasurer in financial planning, budgets, bookkeeping, and reports.
-
Assists grant consultants to ensure compliance with terms and conditions of grants and contracts; prepare required reports.

Manage consultants.
-
Attend committee meetings as needed and provide staff assistance.

Evaluate program components and communicate results to the Board, members, funders, and other constituents; recommend needed improvements.
Fundraising and Communications:

Work with the Fund Development Committee to expand revenue generating and other fund development activities to achieve strategic plan goals and objectives.

Achieve a high level of excellence in all aspects of communications.

Positively and enthusiastically represent SSAAM in public appearances, in print and online media, in partnerships with organizations and businesses, and in relationships with donors, members and other supporters.
Planning and New Business:
-
Engage with the Board and partners in updating the Strategic Plan.
-
Recommend strategies and activities for increasing constituent base, improving programs, organizational growth and sustainability.
Qualifications
Required:
-
Thoroughly committed to SSAAM’s mission and vision.
-
Thorough committed to diversity, equity and inclusion in the organization and its programs.
-
Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science degree.
-
Nonprofit leadership experience.
-
Leadership, coaching, and relationship management skills.
-
Commitment to quality programs and program evaluation.
-
Availability to attend some weekend or evening meetings, events, programs.
-
Ability to set and achieve strategic objectives, and manage a budget.
-
Marketing, public relations, and fund development experience, especially related to capital campaigns.
-
Ability to work effectively with a wide range of stakeholders.
-
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
-
Strong computer skills.
-
Action-oriented, entrepreneurial, adaptable.
-
Passion, idealism, integrity, positive attitude, mission-driven, and self-directed.
Preferred:
-
Executive Director or Fund Development experience.
-
Museum administration training and/or experience.
-
Familiarity with African American history in the Sourland Region and Hopewell Valley.
Hours and Compensation
-
Hours: 20 hours/week
-
Salary based on qualifications and experience.

Benefits not included.

As this is a part-time position, vacation days, holidays and personal illness days are not included. The employee may determine when to work the 20 hours, based on his/her schedule, SSAAM’s board and committee meeting schedule, and SSAAM’s program schedule.
